One of the many branches of my family tree includes several members of the Rahmann family. As I have very little information on these - or any other - members of the Rahmann family, I’m extremely keen to find out more.

The little information I have is :

In my own family tree, I am currently aware of the following people :

Does anyone have any information on these, or other members of the Rahmann family?

Rahmann Name Origin

Posted 18 Mar 08 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in Rahmann.

The name Rahmann (spelled with two ‘n’s *) has Germanic origins, and can be either topographic or habitational. As a topographic name, Rahmann is a variant of Rademann - from the Low German Rade : ‘area cleared of forest’.

Alternately, it can simply refer to someone from the town of Rade (of which there are several), or Rahm.

* when spelled Rahman (with a single ‘n’), it is of Islamic origins; meaning ‘most gracious’. This is usually forms part of a compound name such as al-Rahman (‘the most gracious’) or Abd ur-Ra’hman (‘servant of the most gracious’).

Both Victor and Marjorie were school teachers (possibly teaching art?); Victor teaching in Brisbane. Also shared was a passion for photography.

Victor was one of the 'Rats of Tobruk'. He arrived home with a wounded shoulder aboard the Queen Mary in May 1942.

Marjorie died of cancer in the late 1960s / early 1970s.

Victor died around 1994.

By 1910 he had become a blacksmith, working for the Queensland Railways. In 1912 he joined the Masons. During WWI he was responsible for training soldiers.

Arthur married May Pedersen and together they had three children; Victor, Gladys Myrtle and Dulcie May. May died much earlier than Arthur, in 1963.

After the war he was best known as a cricketer, and was shocked at the introduction of the One Day International - the 'pyjama game'.

Arthur moved into a Brisbane apartment provided by the Masons around 1978/79.
