Updated bios, tree and photos

Posted 12 May 08 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in site.

Several updates to the site have been made over the past few days, with a number of others in progress. So far, a few bios have been reworked; including :

After testing out several pieces of genealogy software over the past few months, I’ve settled on a combination of Reunion (for local data) and The Next Generation (for the online version). Both are superb, and very highly recommended. You’ll find an updated tree here.

Finally, a number of old photographs and certificates are being scanned; and put online (as appropriate) for general use in your research. These are in the Family Tree gallery on my SmugMug site; and yes, there are many, many more. If you’re after a particular photo of a Bird family member, just ask.

Illustrating locations with Google maps

Google mapThe pages in the Places section are gradually being updated with Google maps, to highlight the exact area being discussed. Unfortunately Google is yet to provide detailed maps of some Australian locations (despite Google Maps being created by a Sydney-based developer); these will be added as they become available.

Consolidation

Posted 18 Feb 06 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in now.

When I first created this site it was necessary to use several separate blogs (all under a single umbrella), in order to attain the desired level of detail. Recent versions of Movable Type have enabled me to consolidate this into a single blog - much faster and easier to maintain. It was not until this weekend that I finally had a chance to do this consolidation.

If you notice anything that isn't working quite the way you'd expect, please let me know.

A handful of updates

Posted 03 Jan 05 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in site.

Several photographs of the Bird family have been identified by Darrel and Heather Bird, and can now be seen in the Bird Family Album. Let me know if you can help with any of the remaining unidentified photos.

Angela Milne Picken is seeking further information on Harriet Bird - details of her descendants are already known, but little has come to light on the life of Harriet herself.

Sarah Sheehan is looking for information regarding the descendants of Georgina Caroline Bradfield (primarily the Arthur Edward Adams line).

New Sections

Posted 15 Feb 04 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in site.

Two new sections have been added to the site, Desperately Seeking and Almost Famous. Desperately Seeking lists my current genealogical questions (generally on the Bird family); Almost Famous looks at famous people who happen to share surnames with families on this site. There isn't necessarily any connection with them.

Updates

Updates to the tree are being batched, with information from a number of researchers helping to flesh out the Bird, Chetwynd, Crew, Fraser, Martin, and Shovelton lines.

In the meantime, a brief bio of William Bird has been added, together with several pages in the resources section; including a reference table for Scots weights, measures and money, a list of several mailing lists that may be useful when researching the families on this site, and a list of the primary researchers for this site.

Resources

A resources section has just been added to the site, including information on cemeteries, libraries, registration and general items such as a complete list of the Chapman Country Codes.

Welcome

Posted 31 Jan 04 by Scott Andrew Bird. Filed in site.

Welcome to the new-and-improved Birds in the Tree site. For the past few days I've been adding/changing/deleting/rearranging/prodding and poking. There's plenty more to be added, but the time has come to re-open the doors.

Let me know what you think.
